The Distinguished Gentleman

Spring is vastly approaching which means that wedding season, formal events, proms and in some cases new job ventures will arise. Now I know guys, we always say that I’m just going to wear that suit that I had in my closet since my graduation, or the one I wore to my friend’s wedding 3 years ago and even that one I’ve been wearing to work for the last 5 years. We as men have to realize that fashion is forever evolving and we need to put as much effort into looking good as women do. This can be accomplished by upgrading our wardrobes, throwing out the old and incorporating the new. There is nothing more attractive to a woman than a man in a good suit. Do you really think that females wear the same dress twice? Now with that being said, we can wear the same suit multiple times. However, the suit has to be current. This post will teach you on how to purchase a suit to fit your style and stand out amongst your peers by stepping outside the box.

Here are some tips that all men should follow when buying a suit: 1) Keep in mind type of event that you will be attending. This is important because it plays a major role in the color/style of the suit. 2) Know your measurements; shoulder pads should never overwhelm the suit making you like a quarterback. You shouldn’t have to strain to button or feel like your swimming in the suit jacket. A great way to test the length of the jacket is to cup with your fingers the bottom of the jacket. Always try the suit on with a dress shirt and ensure that only a 1/4 of an inch is showing. 3) Most importantly, know a good tailor, for any alterations that maybe needed after you purchase the suit.

The double-breasted suit was very popular during the late 80’s into the early 90’s. Characters like Crockett and Tubbs from the hit 80’s TV show Miami Vice to Nino Brown in the 1991 blockbuster movie New Jack City has rocked this suit. It’s quite apparent that this suit is making a huge comeback. At the 2010 Men’s spring fashion shows designers like Tommy Hilfiger, Yves St. Laurent and Salvatore Ferragamo, all added their own modern twist to reinvent this 80’s inspired look. The double-breasted suit no longer comes with a plated baggy pant but a slim fit pant that is slightly tapered at the bottom. This suit is very versatile, it can be dressed up with a bowtie and pocket square for a more formal look. For a night out on the town, this suit can be worn with a t-shirt and finally with a power-tie for work.

This next style of suit is my favorite and to be honest it should be a staple in every man’s suit collection. It’s a classic and will never go out of style. Men with status and power wear tailored suits. It makes their appearance look clean and polished. You will feel and look like a million bucks. When you walk into a room, everyone will notice that you’re a well-groomed individual who cares about your appearance.
For the non conventional man who is confident, likes to think outside the box and is very adventurous with his own personal style these are the suits for you. This spring, bright colors, prints and metallic fabrics are commanding a huge presence on the runways. The Dolce & Gabbana and D&G lines added an extra flare to their suits by combining different fabrics with denim. Destination weddings/events or even a night out on the town are prefect to wear these type of suits.
